Lakeview East is the sole service provider for Special Service Area #8. The Special Service Area (SSA) is an economic development tool that allows additional real estate property taxes to be levied to fund added services for a defined area. The services funded through the SSA #8 tax are in addition to services generally provided by the City. These services benefit those properties that are located within the boundaries of the SSA.
Lakeview East property and business owners will benefit from special services that will enhance the commercial district, retain and attract business and financially support small business. Some of these programs include:
People Spots and Curbside Cafe's for Clark Street
SSA#8 and the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce have installed two People Spots: 2863 and 2860 N. Clark Street and two Curbside Cafe's: 2913 and 2914 N. Clark Street.

Property and business owners receive 60% rebates for improvements to storefront facades.
The SSA #8 seven day a week maintenance crew will sweep by your store to ensure a clean environment. During seasonal weather snow removal and street vacuuming will be performed. Special detail work such as graffiti removal is part of their daily routine.
Floral and plantings spread across the commercial district throughout the year. Annual contracts with professional landscapers will maintain all planters and flower buckets.
Shopper’s Rebate Program
SSA #8 funds over $15,000 with the annual shopper’s rebate program “Giver’s Gift”. This program works in tandem with the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce’s Gift Card program, attracting new and loyal shoppers to your stores.
Clark Street Task Force
The North Clark Street Strategic Plan is a comprehensive effort funded by SSA #8 to develop strategies and recommendations necessary to enhance physical conditions, promote and attract new businesses, and retain existing businesses along the North Clark Street Corridor from Diversey to Belmont. The comprehensive project website, including renderings and draft reports, may be found by clicking here.
Marketing and Promotions
Business owners will benefit from area advertising and promotions that will attract thousands of people to our district. Some of the most popular events include: Lakeview East Festival of the Arts, Bank of America Chicago Marathon and Gay Pride Parade.
